Founded in 1944 by Stedman Oakey in Roanoke, Virginia, Stedman House is the oldest continuously-operating interior design firm in Virginia. The Company has been headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia since 1970. Several of our current designers have been with us for over 20 years.

We have eleven full-time designers in our offices in Charlottesville, Roanoke, Wintergreen, and Richmond, who serve clients not only in Central Virginia but throughout the United States. Our designers possess a wide variety of qualifications and memberships – American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Certified in Interior Design (CID), and National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCDIQ). In addition, we bring our vast residential experience and reputation to commercial projects in a unique approach that combines residential comfort with commercial practicality.

Our primary objective is to complete all projects with quality craftsmanship, regardless of their scope. We supervise each and every detail of our projects, which range from an upholstered footstool to custom window treatments to complete accessorizing. We endeavor to oversee all design components in order to ensure that our quality standards are maintained.
